"mela has helped us with PR, event and public affairs support with our Tafwyl festival since 2013. During that time there has been a marked increase in media coverage and the public profile of Cardiff’s Welsh language festival.
"The team at mela has a strong background in political journalism and public affairs and understand the policy decisions being made at all levels from County Hall to Westminster - something that’s crucial for us. Its fully bilingual team inherently understands all aspects of Welsh media and politics in both languages."
Sian Lewis, Chief Executive, Menter Caerdydd
Tafwyl is the annual festival established by Menter Caerdydd in 2006 to celebrate the use of Welsh language in Cardiff. Featuring live music, literature, drama, comedy, sport, food and drink and much more - Tafwyl has grown dramatically over the past few years to become a event in the capital's festival season.
Tafwyl 2015 was the largest and most successful to date and saw the festival’s centrepiece, Tafwyl Fair extended to become a two-day event held in the grounds of Cardiff Castle. More than 34,000 people attended over the course of the weekend to enjoy activities laid on by more sponsors and partners than ever before.
mela has provided PR, press and media relations and public affairs support to Tafwyl for the past three years.
mela has worked with Tafwyl's organisers to significantly raise the profile of the event through securing extensive press and media coverage, enlisting the practical help and endorsement of celebrity ambassadors Hollywood actor Matthew Rhys, presenter Alex Jones, DJ Huw Stephens and rugby star Rhys Patchell as well as providing additional event support as and when needed.
As well as dramatically increased visitor numbers, Tafwyl has enjoyed extensive press and media coverage over the past few years. The 2015 event was covered via more than 10 news items across both national and regional channels and platforms, 12 television and radio interviews/features and 5 press features.
