Cardiff's Euro 2020 Bid

At the begin of June 2017, Cardiff was in the sporting world’s spotlight as the city hosted the UEFA Champions League Finals. Following the success of the event, confirmation came last week that Cardiff is being considered to be one of the host cities for Euro 2020 – the pan-Europe finals celebrating 60 years of the competition.

Mela had the privilege of working with the Football Association of Wales during the run up to the Champions League as well as supporting the digital team over the Finals weekend. Soon after, to celebrate this magnificent event, Mela was commissioned by the FAW to create a commemorative book documenting the Association’s UCL journey. The book not only celebrates what was an unforgettable weekend but also offers insight on how the FAW, Cardiff and Wales succeeded in hosting the biggest single sporting event of 2017.

Every element of the event is showcased - from the Champions Festival held in Cardiff Bay to the trophy tour which saw the iconic Champions League trophies journey all across Wales; from the FAW’s five-a-side tournament, ‘Cwpan y Bobl’, to the show-stopping Men’s and Women’s Finals held in our capital city. Using images and stories, the book seeks to recreate the spirit of this historical event and reflect on its impact on Welsh football.

Mela is delighted that this book has helped put Cardiff back in contention as a host city for Euro 2020.
